Rotomoulding Applications

When it comes to manufacturing large hollow plastic parts, nothing beats the process of rotomolding. Compared to other molding or casting processes like injection or blow molding, rotomolding is exceptionally cost efficient and the products produced are also of better quality.

Polyester

Polyester can be defined as a synthetic fiber which is developed from coal, air, water, and petroleum. They can either be plastic or even a fiber. According to their chemical structure, polyesters can be classified as a thermoplastic or thermostats. However, the most common polyesters are thermoplastics while some are thermostats. The natural polyesters are biodegradable. The polyester resins are also cured by hardeners.

Uses of Polyster:

Polyester is very popular for clothes. Owing to its high asset and firmness, polyester is also used by various industries in manufacturing ropes. These days polyester is being most commonly used in the fabrication of PET bottles.

Forms of Polyesters:

Polyester can be classified as Saturated and Unsaturated Polyester:
  • Saturated Polyester: It is formed by the reaction of two acids. The common reactants for the saturated polyesters are a glycol and an acid or anhydride. The most ordinarily used type of saturated polyester resin consists of terminal hydroxyl groups.
  • Unsaturated Polyester: It is formed by the mixing of two saturated and unsaturated acids. This is very popular and most used type of polyester. These are more reactive as compared to the saturated polyesters. It has a disadvantage of shrinkage.
Characteristic Features of Polyesters Fabrics & Fibers:
  • Polyester fabrics and fibers are very strong, and thus durable.
  • These are extremely resistant to most of the chemicals.
  • They also possess resistance against stretching and shrinking, wrinkle, mildew and also abrasion.
  • These polymers are hydrophobic in nature and dries up very quickly.
  • This property helps them in being put to use for insulation by manufacturing hollow fibers.
  • These fabrics and fibers are recyclable.
